A Writer Writes

So what do you do for a woman that has everything she wants? You wait until she lets slip something of her heart’s desire and then you make it happen.

My mom is my biggest cheerleader and supporter in my creative endeavors. She too is an artist, and understands, through her own experience, where the creative well lives in me. Thanks to her, I have had the courage to try all sorts of things with my artwork. So how do I repay her? I don’t. I can’t. She’s my mother and I will forever be in her debt. BUT, I did find a way to surprise and delight her.

She commented she wanted one of my paintings on a 16 X 20 canvas. I made that happen. The next step was to get it to her, undamaged, in Hawaii. My wonderful husband, Craig, said, “You have the time, hand deliver it!”

Now why did I not think of that before? (All my former airline coworkers are likely laughing at this point.)

A few days later, I found myself in the airport headed to Hawaii, painting safely bundled under my arm. While at the airport in San Francisco, I let my brother know I was on the way. As coincidence would have it, his girlfriend was also on a flight headed that way, too. We arrived ten minutes apart. After a fun little reunion at the airport, they took me to the car rental, and I followed them home.

Yes folks, I made my mom cry. It was so much fun to watch the surprise and delight on her face and her happiness as she unboxed the painting. If I do nothing else with my artwork, I don’t care. Making my mom beam with pride and joy is the best feeling in the world. Sorry Ma, but I need to share this picture.

Anyway, that was last week. This week I’m back at my desk. Lots to do. Hopefully, another blog post sooner, rather than next month?

Let me know what you think? Questions?
