A Writer Writes

It’s been a month. OVER a month since my last post. “How’s that weekly blog post working out for you?” Ha! Apparently a month equals a week in my world.

So, what have I been up to? Well, Covid got me, a whole two days before I was scheduled to get my booster shot. Fortunately, it was not much worse than an allergy induced sinus infection and lasted far less. (And I finally got my booster)

I quit the job I had started three months earlier. It infringed on my creative process time. I liked the job, and loved the coworkers, but when I retired from United, I swore that my creative process would take priority. I guess you could say I made a New Year resolution, but I am going to say it’s much more than that. I recommitted to my creative journey. Plus my dog started to give me sideways looks whenever I put on my work shoes. A few compelling reasons to return to the starving artist gig.

Then at the end of January, we took a short trip to Las Vegas. Not one of my favorite towns, but I went with one of my favorite humans. Craig had a work convention to attend, so I tagged along. I actually spent time writing and even contemplated this blog!

So that was January. What is the shape of February?

I have managed to create more painted content. Most of it is based on my Shift novel series and the origin story of Shift. The paintings help me express the story in a visual rather than textual way.

In addition, I am educating myself (Remember starving artist budget here) on web development, and how to start a business in Washington state. I am Jon Snow, when it comes to these things. Fortunately I have the capacity to learn, and the time to get it right.

My goal here, is to sell my artwork, fund myself as a writer, and contribute to my household. Ever run in a figure eight pattern? That is what this process feels like sometimes. I am determined. Jimmy Buffet is my role model. He quietly managed his business behind the scenes. Therefore, I know it is possible!

In order to avoid driving creativity away, I also listen to novels and peruse the artwork of others. I find this inspirational. One of my favorite artists is Michael Tolleson Robles. His work can be found here: https://michaeltolleson.info/ Thanks Michael for your inspiration.

So February 2022 is a learning, growing and evolving month for me. My time on social media is very minimal. My time in the woods with the dog will replace any social media time I give up. I will continue to try to blog post regularly. I will continue to learn. This is my creative journey and my creative life. I’ve wanted this all my life. I’m here. Time to get my hands dirty.
